Real question made by jarcher8: What does the space station camera look like?
Just viewed some pictures of Earth shot from the space station in orbit. Kind of doubt they are using standard cameras to take such beautifully detailed long distance beautiful picture’s, and was just wondering what a “space camera” looks like.

The use standard cameras, half of them use film, and half are digital. But these are full professional grade, around $ 8,000 (and up) cameras, with the filters and lens for taking the pictures. They are checked, calibrated, adjusted and cleaned very carefully before being taken up. The modifications, if any, for space use are pretty minimal — painted black in order to minimize reflections, larger shutter button for use with gloves, data imprinting on each frame (time, picture number, camera settings).
There are at least 9 high quality cameras used, including:
Nikon D2Xs
Nikon D3X
Kodak DCS460
Kodak DCS760
Maurer (w/ Xenotar 80mm f/2.8 lens)
… and a few others.

They use proffesional SLR cameras, pretty much the same as used by professional photographers on Earth.
